Why take piano lessons?

Improve study habits: Students will be challenged to set goals and given the tools to evaluate progress and meet those goals on their own.

Hand-eye coordination: Piano study involves visual, kinesthetic, and aural awareness. Eyes, ears, and body all work in sync.

Fine Motor Skills: Piano students have spent much time developing the many small muscles in their hands and developing control over each part of each finger.

Brain Power: Studies show that studying music strengthens right and left brain pathways, leading to higher special reasoning, concentration, memory and adaptability.

Self esteem: Music is easily shared with others, giving students a sense of achievement and confidence.

Lifelong appreciation and enjoyment of music: Studying piano will expose you to many different types of music from classical, jazz, blues, popular, contemporary, accompaniment, and more!

Heather Linville, Parent

“We started piano just last summer not sure if our daughter would even like it. With Karla’s gentle touch and expertise in working with children, our daughter now loves learning to play and looks forward to her lesson each week!”

Niall Kader, Parent

"Karla is an excellent teacher, an expert in music and in education. She is also a great mentor and role model. She has a wonderful way of communicating with children, which has kept my son engaged over the years!"

Luke, Student

"Karla Wakeen is great at adapting to each student's skill and age. She is also fantastic  at teaching in a genuine and down to earth way. She even gives out free stickers!"

John and Sangeetha Kelly, Parents

"While introducing a child (or teen, or even adult) to traditional musical ideas and styles, Karla also enjoys exploring a range of genres. She challenges her students to strive for individual expressiveness, not just learning the notes. She balances kindheartedness and rigor, as well as theory and practice."
